1. The Name
Anika (अनीका) means “splendor”. It is also a name of Goddess Durga — fitting for a dancer whose art belongs to the temple as much as to the stage.
2. Beginnings
Anika took her first steps in Bharatanatyam at the age of four, at the Abhinava School of Dance founded by the celebrated dance couple Nirupama and Rajendra. What began as a child’s delight in rhythm soon revealed itself as something more lasting.
3. The Guru
At six, she came under the tutelage of her present Guru, Smt. Samhitha Raj, founder of the Nritya Samhitha Academy. Under her guidance, Anika’s training deepened through years of dedicated practice, discipline, and love for the art. Alongside dance, she trains in Carnatic classical vocal under Guru Smt. Bhanumathy Iyengar — because in this tradition, the dancer who understands the music dances differently.
4. Milestones
Anika has completed all four levels of the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya examinations and passed her Junior Bharatanatya Examination with distinction under the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board. On 6 July 2025, she completed her Bharatanatya Rangapravesha at the JSS Auditorium, Bengaluru — the formal ascent to the stage that every classical dancer works towards for years.
